Saturday am and pm: 6 stations available, marked as reserved for EVs only.

This is my first public charging station so I was excited to try it. When I arrived though all 6 stations had non EV cars parked in the spots and no one using the chargers. I was lucky that one couple had just parked and I asked politely if they were using the charger and they politely moved their car. They were curious about the charger though and had questions about it.

It seems that the spots are not well marked for EV cars and I didn’t see special paint or signs so the *ss hats have an excuse. But if the spots are not available to EV users why bother having them?

Hey. We have posted about this a bunch before and as a new driver your going to part of the solution for this! I think I feel a blog post coming out of this shortly!

Try to keep an open mind right now as everything get’s sorted out. Remember you are basically making history here and helping evolve behavioral patterns/laws, etiquette, etc forever. Gas cars have had 100 years to figure all this out.

First thing to do is contact the management and calmly inquire about this, the rules, etc. It’s a great question to ask. If they installed charging stations and electric cars cannot get to the station what is the point? I suspect after the next few years as popular locations see lots of EV’s this may become less an issue

Early on though I predict this issue of EV spots and non-ev cars in those spots are going to be the huge first issue(besides the non-issue of the Chevy Volt Battery)

One already issued solution is that California passed a recent, somewhat flawed law that allows towing of vehicles not plugged in charging. Unfortunately this also means EV’s not charging, which I think is stupid, but that part could be updated. (it’s a long story. See Chelsea Sextons interesting inside scoop on the whole issue in California)
Anyway it’s hard, do you enforce this like a handicapped spot? Can you imagine the backlash at some point between gas cars and special reserved parking for those rich elitist EV people :) The best solution is EV’s for everyone eventually I suppose, but it’s going to be an bumpy but ultimately fun trip.
